Detox Tips
When it comes to natural detoxing, the body is amazing. It can naturally remove toxins while strengthening your immune system. However, there are many things you can do to further assist your body with this natural process.
1. Limit your alcohol consumption. Drinking too much alcohol reduces your liver’s ability to carry out its normal functions, such as detoxifying. It also can lower the immune system. We recommend taking immune boosters when trying to detox.
2. Get at least 8 hours of sleep. Adequate sleep and having good quality sleep has been shown to help your body eliminate toxins from the previous day. During sleep, the flow of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain increases dramatically, washing away harmful waste proteins that build up between brain cells during waking hours, so it is just as important to get a full night’s sleep as it is to take supplements that can aid in the natural detoxification process.
3. Drink plenty of water. Drinking cola or coffee is dehydrating and does not take the place of pure, refreshing water. Be sure and drink filtered, non-fluoridated water that is free from any chemicals. Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day, especially when you are detoxing. If working out or sweating a lot due to warmer weather, it may be necessary to drink a bit more. Water regulates your body’s temperature, lubricates joints, aids digestion and nutrient absorption and detoxifies your body by removing waste products.
4. Avoid sugar and processed foods. Sugar and food that contains empty calories but little nutritional value has been shown to be linked to chronic disease such as diabetes and poor heart health. It is important to provide your organs with the nutrition they need while they are detoxing, especially when doing a liver or a kidney detox.
5. Increase your Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and be sure and take multiVitamins too. Eat antioxidant-rich food loaded with vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium to reach optimum health. Foods that contain the highest levels of these Vitamins include berries, fresh melon, avocados, nuts, cocoa, fresh vegetables like broccoli, moringa or asparagus, and natural herbs.
6. Take a probiotic. You can also eat foods that contain probiotics such as yogurt or other fermented foods. Foods like tomatoes, artichokes, bananas, asparagus, onions, garlic, and oats will keep your digestive system healthy, which is important for proper detoxification and immune health.
7. Avoid eating too much salt. Consuming a lot of salt increases water retention and promotes toxic accumulation. By increasing your water intake, this will simultaneously help you reduce the amount of salt your body might be holding onto. You can also eliminate excess salt waste by eating more potassium-rich foods such as sweet potatoes, kidney beans, squash or bananas.
8. Exercise more. Regular exercise reduces inflammation and allows your body to heal and detoxify itself more quickly.
9. Reduce your exposure to toxins in your home by switching to natural cleaning products, and omitting scented laundry soaps or air fresheners. Commercial cleaning agents can expose you to potentially toxic chemicals. Switch to natural deodorants, organic makeups, and natural skin and nail treatments.
10. Avoid Stress. Listen to relaxation meditations, practice yoga, mindfulness or do deep breathing exercises. There are natural products that can also help to reduce stress without causing any side effects.
